In the mood to hand-feed a giraffe, be inches away from a real-live white rhinoceros or have an ostrich peck at your car window? Then, Lion Country Safari is the place for you. Adults and children are guaranteed to enjoy their day at Florida’s only drive-through safari and amusement park.
Lion Country Safari’s drive-through preserve is divided into seven different sections with a variety of animals representing each geographic area. Once inside the preserve, you’ll be inches away from some of the world’s most beautiful animals. You’ll see tapirs, deer and llamas from the South American grasslands, water buffalo from India and tons of animals from Africa including the lion, elephant, ostrich and zebra, just to name a few. There are no barriers separating the wild animals from your vehicle so when I say, you are up close and personal, you ARE up close and personal. Don’t be surprised if a huge water buffalo, giraffe or zebra crosses the road right in front of your car. Make sure to wave hello to Jazi, the new baby rhinoceros.
Grab your hats, sunscreen, camera and start walking. Lion Country Safari also has fabulous walk-through area complete with up-close encounters with wild animals to fun amusement park rides, all included with price of admission. So, if your little one wants to ride the carousel five times in a row like mine, it’s totally fine and won’t cost you a dime more. You can also play unlimited rounds of mini golf, spend time on the paddle boats and ride the ferris wheel countless times.
To save a few bucks, pack your own snacks and food and relax at one of the many picnic tables around the park. There is also a full restaurant next to the gift shop.
Bring a few extra bucks to hand-feed the giraffes and lorikeets.
After walking around the amusement park, put on your bathing suit and cool off in Lion Country Safari’s Water Splash Park. Adults can sit back and relax in a lounge chair shaded by an umbrella while the little ones run off some energy.
Be sure and check Lion Country Safari’s website for current schedules and pricing.

The Palm Beach Zoo is an awesome zoo for its size. And, if you purchase a membership pass, makes for unlimited affordable excursions for the entire year. If you plan to visit the zoo more than a few times, the pass pays for itself. Plus, you will receive a 10% discount on any purchases made at the gift shop, concession stand and restaurant.
My kids love riding the carousel (few $ per ride fee), feeding the birds (bring quarters) and walking around the South American Rain Forest complete with Mayan Pyramid and sculptures. With almost 2,000 exotic and endangered animals from around the world, every visit will be enjoyable and unique. Don’t be surprised if a free-roaming iguana or peacock crosses your path. Make sure to check out the various animal shows and say hello to Mardi, the white alligator, one of ten white alligators known to exist. The capybaras, tamarins, marmosets and playful river otters are a constant hit with our family. And, if you go on a cooler day or a day when it’s raining, the other zoo animals get really frisky.
So, pack your bag and cooler (hats, sunscreen, bathing suits & towel) and head to the Palm Beach Zoo. Both changing tents and restrooms are located next the Interactive Fountain. (We find it easier to wear our suits there and change into dry clothes before we leave.) There are also plenty of picnic tables in shaded areas throughout the zoo. Spend a few hours or the entire day. With an annual pass and free parking, there’s no reason not to return.
Be sure to check the zoo’s website for current schedules and prices.
